Sidelined
senior capstone project bfa
“Sidelined” is a multimedia installation that explores the experiences and stories of female athletes, highlighting both the positive and toxic environments in which they navigate and excel. The project shines a light on the challenges and inequities faced by women in sports, particularly the disparities between male and female athletics. Drawing inspiration from my own experiences as a female athlete, the project aims to amplify the voices of women who continue to thrive despite these obstacles.
Through extensive research, interviews, and surveys, I gathered content from college and high school athletes, coaches, and teams to create a comprehensive narrative. Featured in the installation are three posters, each telling the personal story of a female athlete and her journey. Accompanying the posters is a book that compiles all the stories collected during my design process, offering a deeper look into the realities of female athletics.
This project is dedicated to all athletes who had their seasons sidelined by the COVID-19 pandemic, with a message of resilience and hope: #wewillplayagain.
